The following certifications and documents are required in order to apply to the CA-TF8 and must be submitted at the time of application:

CA State Rescue Systems 1 Certification.
Professional Medical Certificate or License (EMT, EMT-P, MD, RN, NP, PA, First Aid, etc.)
Current CPR Card or compliance letter on agency letterhead
HazMat First Responder Operations (FRO) certificate or compliance letter on agency letterhead
Copy of Pulmonary Function Test Clearance
2 Letters of Recommendation from supervisor, employer, current member of CA-TF8, DMAT team leader or your organization’s leader.
The following certifications and documents are highly desirable for selection. Proof of course completion must be submitted with this application:
NFPA 1670 Confined Space Rescue Technician Certification
NFPA 1670 Trench Rescue Technician Certification
NFPA 1670 Rope Rescue Technician Certification
NFPA 1670 Water Rescue Operations Certification
NFPA 1670 Vehicle & Heavy Machinery Certification or CA State Firefighter 1 Certificate
DHS/FEMA US&R Structural Collapse Technician Certification
Maintaining the following immunizations is a pre-requisite of the DHS/FEMA Urban Search & Rescue System and CA-TF8:
Tetanus/Diphtheria (Td): Three shot initial immunization (usually done in childhood) then current booster within the last 5 years. Contraindications: prior reaction to Td.
